The One Academy multimedia students, Ellaine Wong, Reuben Teo, Wong Ee-Va, Yiing Shii Ti, and Stefanie Chee had already achieved global recognition at the International Summit Awards, USA and Horizon Interactive Awards in 2007 for their short-video ‘Fence’. Once again, they added their third international award; the JVC Tokyo Video Festival 2008 Excellence Award to their collection. Reuben Teo speaks on behalf of the students. Beating more than 2000 participants from all over the world; the Excellence Award the students received included a 100,000 Japanese Yen and Award plaque. To make things even better, the students were invited to Japan for 3D, 2N to attend the award giving ceremony, fully paid by JVC for two! According to the 22 year old, ‘Fence’ was the group’s 2nd year assignment at The One Academy! A story about social segmentation between races, Fence describes the story about 2 kids breaking the racial barrier between them & crossing over the fence of racial differences. Reuben’s journey to success began when The One Academy conducted a road show at his secondary school. “Initially, I wanted to attend another local art collage, but after looking at the results from The One Academy, I changed my mind. Here, there are a lot of international student achievements as compared to other art institutions,” he added. The Multimedia Design students graduated in December 2007, but until today, they are still enjoying the industry recognition from their recent win in Tokyo.
