The One Academy graduate prodigy, Chang Woon Bing, won the Second Prize in the ‘2008 Olympic Sport & Art Contest’ organised by the Olympic Council of Malaysia with his artwork entitled ‘Glorious Transitions’. The graduate from Seri Kembangan is currently pursuing his Bachelor’s of Art Honours Degree in Graphic Design with Animation although he studied Illustration while at the Academy. His Degree at the University of the West of England in the UK will take approximately 3 years and will complete in June 2009. “I have always been interested in both animation and illustration. I did consider taking animation in TOA but ultimately chose to take illustration. I believe it is natural to move between the medium of animation and illustration as the 2 disciplines are closely related and complement each other,” said Woon Bing. According to Woon Bing, the artwork was a final project for his Illustration subject. Inspired by the burning torch of the Olympics, his artworks is a reflection of the burning spirit of sportsmanship, where peace, environmental sustainability and the respect of human dignity reign. “The lecturers at The One Academy were very supportive and encouraged me to explore my creative side. If they were not so, I would be as successful today,” added the graduate. Apart from his win in the 2008 Olympic Sport and Art Contest, Woon Bing has also secured other prominent student awards such as the 1st Prize in the Digital Art & Design Award 1999, the 3rd Prize in the New Media Award 2001, the 2nd Prize New Media Awards 2002, the Digi Art Wallpaper Creative Contest Award, Bronze for the Wacom Digital Art Competition 2006, and other awards.
