Aniwow! 2009 - Best Interactive Web Work (Interactive Design)

Students from The One Academy represented Malaysia for the first time at Aniwow! 2009, organized by the Communication University of China (CUC) and Beijing's TV station. Over 30 animation experts from around the globe attended this event.

The group received the Certificate of Honor for their online campaign "Is Your Kid Chubby? ", targeted at Malaysian parents to raise awareness of child obesity. Judges from around the world awarded it the win for its vivid, informative and creative ring as well as its humorous approach.

Penang CAT Mascot Competition - Champion

Illustration junior lecturer Chang Lip Wei emerged as a champion with his 'Menang' tiger sketch design, winning the grand prize of RM3,000.

According to Lip Wei, 'Menang' was formed from a combination of 'Malaysia' and 'Penang'. "'Menang' means that although we are Penangites, we are also Malaysians," he explained further. The black stripes on its ears represent the Penang Bridge and the ones on its head, the shape of Penang island.

The cash prize was awarded to him by Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng, who was said to be impressed by the spirit of unity that he has imparted on his design. "The 'Menang' mascot will be used not only to promote state programs, but also be the ambassador of our sports, cultural and tourism activities."

The Junior Designer Awards (JDA) 2009 was jointly organized by 'Raja Hias' Eric Leong of The Kuala Lumpur & Selangor Furniture Entrepreneur Association (KLSFEA) and iN Publishers, with the theme ‘Apartment Sofa’.

Eunice's innovative idea was inspired by the tower tumble game Jenga, which led her to a space-saving concept using environmentally friendly materials like artificial leather and stainless steel.

2009 MSC Malaysia Intellectual Property Creators Challenge - Computer Casual Games Grant

'Reachin Pichin' won a group of multimedia designers an exclusive grant of RM50,000 to develop the game under the category of Computer Casual Games, combined with industry support by MDeC.

Reachin' Pichin is a simple yet fun arcade game where events can happen anywhere. According to Yi Wei, "Pichin is a lovable creature born from a failed experiment and thrown into the laboratory's waste room. So it is up to the players to help it fly high, overcome obstacles and break boundaries with amazing achievements."

Olympus Pen E-P1 'Storytellers Wanted' Competition 2009 - 1st prize

84 students in 28 teams unleashed their creativity in the 'Storytellers Wanted' video and photography competition, becoming not just the first batch of Olympus Pen EP-1 users in Malaysia but also winners of Olympus' newly-launched cameras!

The grand prize was won with a creative video explaining the origin of the Chinese ideograph 'woman' as well its multiple applications. Two other winning teams explored the theme of 'Family' in heart-warming short films that won over the judges.

Collaborating with Olympus Malaysia, students were assigned to capture photographs and convert them into a 2-minute video to interpret the 'story behind the picture'. Many found it an enriching experience to learn about video making and photography.

Competing against the cream of the crop in the national film industry, a group of Digital Animation students emerged victorious with Best Animation Award for their short film ‘My Telatori’!

When asked about the winning concept behind My Telatori, Chin said kids and imagination becomes the inspiration. “Remember when we were young, the world was our playground and the things around us are our toys? In My Telatori, we wanted to portray that idea in our animation where we tell a story about kids that just want to have fun.”

In Young Designer Award (YDA) Sofa Design Competition co-organized by Malaysia’s renowned interior designer Eric Leong and home-living publication Creative Home magazine, the interior design students competed against each other to bag the title of best sofa design and a priceless opportunity to see their winning furniture design come to life! |

Tan Keng Chun emerged first prize winner of the competition for his versatile design concept and took home the grand prize win of RM3,000 cash prize plus an exclusive opportunity to promote and launch his designed product in the market.

The winning entries for the competition were exhibited at the 10th International Archidex ’09 held at KLCC Convention Centre (2 - 5 July 2009), where the event is recognised as the region's annual premier exhibition for the architecture, interior design and building industry.

In the One Show Southeast and South Asia Workshop 2008 cum online digital creative competition, The One Academy students compete with teams from colleges all over Southeast and South Asia region and won Silver for their creative digital advertising campaign.

Trained participants were to compete with each other to create the best creative digital advertising campaign for MasterCard as the preferred card for travelers by creating a relevant ‘Priceless’ communication solution that will engage the target audience.

The collaboration involved a team of Multimedia Design students and Advertising & Graphic Design student, who attended a three-day intensive workshop in Singapore, led by award-winning digital creative directors.

In a national creative content competition of Program Karyawan Muda 2008 organized by National Film Department (FNM) and Department of Broadcasting (RTM) under the Ministry of Information Malaysia, four groups of digital animation graduates made it to the finals thus getting their respective animation works recognized nationwide.

The digital animation works shortlisted as a finalist entry include My Telatori by Chin Kuan Win, Julian Chai and Collin Hee; Family Portrait by Chin Lean Kee, Albert Ang and Loke Keng Sun; Apocalypse by Jason Woh and Kevin Wong and last but not least Signtific by Alvin Pang, Chong Kin Leong, Teah Wei Han, Adrian Hooi and Lim Chih Lun.

Out of 2,000 over digital content entries received from all over Asia, Chin Lean Kee and his group was shortlisted into top 3 and secured their winning position at second place for their amazing short animation work Family Portrait with RM2,000 cash prize plus certificate. DigiCon6 competition organizer commended further Lean Kee and his group’s team effort with a Special Award, thus gaining double industry recognition! |
