Project Introduction

The 7.1 magnitude earthquake which struck northwest China’s Qinghai Province on 14 April 2010 took a heavy toll on schools. Local education authorities estimated 80% of primary schools and 50% of secondary schools in the country were severely damaged.

As of 21 April 2010, the number of earthquake casualties stood at 2,183 dead, 84 missing and 12,135 injured. The lack of food, clothing and shelter combined with the high altitude, freezing temperatures and difficult road access continue to complicate relief efforts. Recent snowfall, high winds and the heavy traffic of relief convoys are also hindering rescue efforts.

The quake victims are in desperate need of food and medicine. Every bit that we do will help in the rescue efforts and in rebuilding the lives of the victims. The list below demonstrates how even small donations can help:
• 1 crate of drinking water (20 bottles): USD 2.20
• 1 blanket for two people: USD 3.40
• 1 box containing 32 packets of instant noodles: USD 3.37
• 1 winter coat: USD 2.90

Under The One Academy’s Care project, we have collected donations to help the Qinghai victims. We had received RM5,000 from students & staffs from The One Academy and the donations had been passed over to China Embassy which will then be channelled to Qinghai earthquake victims.
