Project Introduction
On the 12th of January 2010, a powerful earthquake struck Haiti just before 5 pm. The earthquake's tremor caused buildings to collapse, killed close to 170,000 people and made another 400,000 people homeless. Most of us would not know of Haiti were it not for this unfortunate incident; in fact, the political situation in Haiti has been unstable since the country achieved independence in 1804, disrupting the nation’s economic growth. As a result, many Haitians can only afford to eat ‘mud biscuits’ - biscuits made of dirt and clay - as they can’t afford even a plate of rice.
We can see from the eyes of the Haitians who survived from this disaster that they are torn apart and helpless. In such dark hours, what they need most is someone like us to give them a helping hand. Whatever the amount we contribute, we can help them to get their feet back on the ground and rebuild their lives.
Under The One Academy’s Care campaign, we will be collecting donations to help the Haitians. With every donation of RM5, you will receive a complimentary greeting card. The greeting card were specially designed by The One Academy and features the storyboard of the short animation, Harmony, which was produced by The One Interactive. The animation will be aired on TV stations during the Chinese New Year.
All funds collected will be passed over to UNICEF and will then be channeled to Haiti earthquake victims. Your donation will help the Haitians as below:
- RM5: Provides 1 sachet of Oral Rehydration Salts to help children recover from diarrhea.
- RM50: Provides 3 insecticidal mosquito bednets to protect children from malaria.
- RM100: Provides 6 families with clean water for 1 day.
- RM200: Provides 1 family with temporary shelter.
