“I have always thought of myself as an artist
I loved painting, and I still do,” says Tattfoo
Tan. “Then, by word of mouth, I heard
of The One Academy. What’s special about the place
is the whole package; the soaring spirit of its students,
the works. And thanks to the lecturers there, I discovered
a whole new world of graphic design.”
Tattfoo went on to work in various distinguished local
and international design firms, his artworks were also
being exhibited in many art galleries, including the
National Art Gallery and Petronas Gallery in Kuala Lumpur
as well as in the New Talent group show of Brooklyn,
New York.
“My main responsibilities today are to design
and conceptualise for advertisements as well as all
the other medium so that they synchronise with the strategy
of the whole campaign,” says the Penang lad who
is working in New York City as a Design Director.
He also owns an art gallery, the Tattfoo Temple of
Art and Design, not far from where the Statue of Liberty
stands on Staten Island.
“One of the many major accounts I handled includes
rejuvenating the corporate identity of Sotheby’s,
which is a century-old inter-national auction house
based in New York.”
He says each assignment is a challenge in itself.
“I have been working here for about two years
now. My most enjoyable pursuit is in the exploration
of both my concept and creativity in fine arts,”
he adds.
As for those who want to follow his footsteps, he has
this to say: “Pick your first job carefully.
Get the best one you can even if it means not getting
paid because it will determine your fate between excellence
and mediocrity. Know what you are getting into... then
enjoy the ride.”
