The Shell Advance Malaysian MotoGP 2011 global design competition delivers a once in a lifetime opportunity for designers from all over the world to design a grand trophy that will be presented during the upcoming Shell Advance MotoGP race.
Cheah Yong Keat, an interior design student from The One Academy trained by renowned designer Eric Leong through Design Ninja Programme competed against global participants and became the grand prize winner of the competition who will see his winning design trophy presented at the international race. His outstanding design was chosen by an expert panel and as a reward, Cheah won 10 grandstand tickets to the upcoming race. "Participating in this competition was indeed one of my proudest moments in life. The feeling of winning was tremendously amazing as I told myself that 'I have made it!'" he said.
"The trophy that I designed expressed a story of a winning racer that took shape of a motorcycle along with its trophy holder. From the top view of the trophy, we can see the outline route of the racing track," Cheah explained. His trophy design was themed around the Shell Advance Seven Riding Wonders – a global promotion to find the ultimate riding wonder.
"In my opinion, every successful interior designer must envelop the essential qualities such as having strong self-confidence, extraordinary creativity and be willing to work hard. I believe the education that I received at The One Academy will be of a great help to my future career because of what I have learned here, and the opportunity that will bring me to my road of success!" said Cheah.
As one of the Design Ninjas' led by head of Interior Design department Eric Leong, Cheah has been very active in taking part in various design competitions. Previously, he was one of the grand winner teams of Bolton Wharf Hoarding Design competition. "As a Design Ninja, a special design task force founded by head of interior design department Eric Leong under ID@TOA, we were all well trained under very strict design modules. But all these trainings are worthwhile when we become the winner of these competitions!"
