TOA Graduates Bring to Life the Final Fantasy VII Remake and Resident Evil Resistance!
Updated 2020-04-27

Lemon Sky Studios is one of Southeast Asia’s premier CGI studios and is home to over 300 skilled artists from around the world. Over the past 12 years, Lemon Sky has worked on hundreds of international projects including games such as Marvel’s Spider-Man, Warcraft III: Reforged, StarCraft: Remastered, Gears of War 5, and Uncharted: The Lost Legacy.

The founders of Lemon Sky Studios are none other than The One Academy graduates Cheng Fei Wong and Ken Foong. The duo met in college and later decided to pursue their passion in making art together resulting in a CGI studio in 2001 and a game art studio in 2006 – the first game art studio in the country. Five years later, they combined Games and Animation under one roof and thus, Lemon Sky was born! Since their inception, they have worked with many big names in the industry such as Bandai Namco, Microsoft, Blizzard Entertainment and more.

Final Fantasy VII remake and Resident Evil Resistance are the latest titles to hit the gaming scene. However, these names are hardly new to the gaming industry as they are known and played worldwide by millions. The 3D assets of these games were made by none other than Malaysian-based studio Lemon Sky Studios!

Prior to this, the studio has worked with both Square Enix and Capcom. They have contributed on Final Fantasy XIV: Heavensward, Final Fantasy XIV: Stormblood and Final Fantasy XIV: Shadowbringers for Square Enix. As for Capcom, they have worked on the mobile card game Teppen and Dead Rising 4. All these games were a hit with the masses.

For the Final Fantasy VII Remake, Lemon Sky was responsible for in-game visuals namely the 3D asset creation. On the other hand, Resident Evil Resistance is the multiplayer mode for Capcom’s Resident Evil 3 remake which was released in April. For this project, Lemon Sky was brought on board by the folks at NeoBards Entertainment, who were involved with the development of Resident Evil Resistance. Lemon Sky’s role in this project was creating 3D assets for the characters and the game’s environment.

So, what is next on the cards for Lemon Sky Studios? They are currently working on developing EA’s second big remaster, the Command & Remastered. This exciting remaster is set to release in later months and given the team’s track record in producing exceptional projects, this is sure to be yet another achievement Lemon Sky will be proud of.

It is indeed a moment of pride for Malaysians in knowing that our local talents had contributed in many huge AAA games including these two major ones. While the aim to transform Malaysia into Southeast Asia’s game and animation development hub in the next five years is brought to reality, there is truly no better time to bring to life your passion for the arts, gaming and animation then right now.
