ID Students Bagged the Dulux “Unlocking Potential Colours” Award

The One Academy interior design students are known as students who dare to explore creativity beyond boundaries, thanks to the guidance of Dr. Eric Leong, Head of Interior Design department. These students are constantly creating award-winning works and gaining recognition in competitions.

Six of interior design students recently celebrated their achievements for seizing a winning spot in the Dulux “Unlocking Potential Colours” award. Organized by Dulux in close collaboration with Malaysian Institute of Interior Designs (MIID), the competition required young participants to use palettes from Dulux ColourFutures 2014 in their designs while playing with colour combinations to unveil the colour’s uniqueness to brighten up a space. ‘Unlocking the Potential of Colours’ is an interior design competition opened for students nationwide, giving them a chance to strut their creative abilities and innovative visions. Through this competition, students learned about the ColourFuture collection and how to create influential colour trends that determines the pivotal hue of the Colour of the Year.

In this exciting experience, the winners are: First Prize winner Lim Ming Zheng who won a 13” MacBook Air and Third Prize winner Teh Ka Meng who received an iPad Air WiFi. Bagging the Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 are none other than the Merit Winners who are Christina Kiew, Hee Wun Jet, Lim Xin Le and Tan Wen Yan.

According to first prize winner Ming Zheng, his participation in industry competitions has helped him gain some positive experience. By partaking in the Dulux competition, Ming Zheng was able to refine his skills in colour combination and learned how to bring out the uniqueness in colours. As for Ka Meng the third prize winner, he expressed that his participation in the Dulux competition has encouraged him to practice his colour knowledge, especially using grey tone to enhance his design in his illustration.

The One Academy Interior Design students acquire substantial problem solving abilities and creative thinking development. Students are encouraged to create intricate works of art that shows off their personal style, making their work outstanding. This must be the reason why The One Academy interior design students are often recognized for producing award-winning works, reflecting their creative ideas and achieving world-class results.
